Undermining my belief in humanity

Mirror.co.uk – News – Showbiz News – LIGHT-SABRE DUEL PUTS TWO IN HOSPITAL

TWO Star Wars fans are in a critical condition in hospital after duelling with lightsabres made by filling fluorescent light tubes with petrol.

The pair – a man aged 20 and a girl of 17 – are believed to have been filming a mock fight when one of the devices exploded in woodland on Sunday.

Oh my.

And I often tell people that I really belive in the intellegence of humanity.

And then they go and do this.

  1. I suspect that this accident

Ummm.. saying that it was a accident, while engendering more hope for Humanitys future, is not accurate.

ac·ci·dent (ăk’sÄ-dÉ™nt, -dÄ•nt’) pronunciation
    1. An unexpected and undesirable event, especially one resulting in damage or harm: car accidents on icy roads.
    2. An unforeseen incident: A series of happy accidents led to his promotion.
    3. An instance of involuntary urination or defecation in one’s clothing.

While I am sure that #3 happened, I do not classify this as ‘unexpected’. Perhaps unexpected by the people that this story is about – but by a reasonable human, quite expected.

  2. Although the article does not say, I suspect that this accident was preceded by the most dangerous phrase in the English language:

    "Hey Ya’ll, watch this"
